The Pima County Republican Party is raffling off a Glock 23 handgun to raise money for get out the vote efforts in the district where a Glock was used last winter to kill six people and wound Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.).
Arizona has a strong gun culture — Giffords herself owns a Glock and told the New York Times last year that she was a “pretty good shot.” But, in light of the shootings, it’s curious why the local GOP decided to risk opening itself up to charges of insensitivity on the issue.
Raffle tickets are on sale this week for $10. The Pima County GOP will conduct the raffle at the first event it has after the 125 tickets are sold out. They did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
